Questions asked by campers

What’s fun about church camp?

Camp Phoenix is more “spirit camp” than “church camp.” Lots of stuff will be lots of fun—there are horses to ride, new friends to make, a lake for swimming and canoeing, cookouts, crafts and a spiritual program geared especially toward you and what you’d like to know about God, Jesus and your place in the universe.

Is the food good?

It’s delicious. Meals are served family-style, with a counselor at each table. We encourage you to try a bite of everything and to drink lots of water and other fluids. However, we understand picky eaters. Peanut butter, jelly, and sandwich bread are always available. Snacks are served afternoon and evening.

What if it is really hot?

All of the cabins are well-ventilated and equipped with fans. In the event of extreme heat, we’ll ask you to move more slowly and to drink more water. We’ll schedule longer rest periods and more swim time.

What do I bring to camp?

We’ll send you a complete list of what to pack. We want you to leave electronic toys and gadgets at home. We encourage you to bring family photos, a Bible, a camera, and a book to read at quiet time.

Will I really get to ride a horse?

Absolutely! You’ll ride your horse in the rink and on a trail. You’ll wear a helmet, of course, and have lots of help from trained horse staff.

What’s the camp covenant?

When you sign up for camp, we’ll send you the camp covenant. It’s a pledge that you sign to treat fellow campers, camp staff and camp property with love and respect. Honoring the covenant keeps everyone at Camp Phoenix safe, secure and happy. Breaking the covenant is a serious matter that may result in forfeiting your right to remain at camp.

May I invite a friend to camp?

We want you to bring friends. Make sure they know everyone participates in all of the activities, including the spiritual program.

Questions your parents might have.

You can get around Camp Phoenix on two legs, four legs, or two wheels.

If you were too young to remember having water poured over your head as an infant at Baptism, then we have a way of recreating the experience for you that is guaranteed to give you a new understanding of the sacrament.
